Moniepoint Inc, a leading digital financial services provider, has announced the expansion of its “Women in Tech” program in commemoration of International Women’s Day.
The initiative, aimed at bridging the gender gap in the technology sector, will now offer 15 internship positions, up from 10 in previous years. This move aligns with the 2025 IWD theme, “Accelerate Action,” which calls for urgent measures to close gender disparities and promote inclusion across industries.
The expansion of the program underscores Moniepoint’s commitment to empowering women in Nigeria’s tech space, where female representation remains low despite gender parity in the country’s population. Statistics from the Nigerian Bureau of Statistics (NBS) indicate that while women constitute nearly half of Nigeria’s population, they only account for 25% of the tech workforce. The Women in Tech initiative seeks to address this disparity by equipping young women with hands-on experience, mentorship, and opportunities to work on live projects in digital finance.
For this year’s edition, successful applicants will have the chance to intern in various technical fields, including Cloud Engineering, Backend Engineering, Technical Product Management, and Data Engineering. The selected interns, dubbed the “Dream 15,” will undergo a six-month paid internship, receiving mentorship, branded merchandise, and potential consideration for full-time employment. Moniepoint believes this expansion will provide more women with the necessary tools to thrive in the industry and take on leadership roles in the evolving tech space.
Chinaza Nduka-Dike, vice president of People Operations at Moniepoint, emphasized the company’s dedication to fostering gender diversity in technology. She highlighted the impact of past program participants, noting that many have gone on to make significant contributions to the company and the broader tech ecosystem. Similarly, a past beneficiary, Daniela Uzosike, lauded the initiative, describing it as a career-transforming opportunity that has paved the way for more women to excel in the industry.
Moniepoint’s Women in Tech program continues to be a driving force in promoting gender inclusion within the technology sector. By offering women access to resources, mentorship, and practical experience, the initiative is helping to close the gender gap and shape the future of tech in Africa. Applications for the internship are open to women across the continent, with details available on the Women in Tech website.
