SIFAX Shipping Inland Container Terminal (ICT) Limited, a subsidiary of SIFAX Group, has celebrated its fifth anniversary, marking a milestone in its transformation from a swampy, undeveloped space in 2020 into a modern logistics hub. At a ceremony held at the Lagos terminal, executives, staff, and partners reflected on how the facility, initially conceived as a solution to decongest Apapa ports, has grown into a world-class terminal through strategic investment, innovation, and teamwork.

Managing Director, Mr. Paul Linden, recounted the terminal’s humble beginnings and praised the commitment that powered its evolution. He highlighted key milestones such as the first barge operation in December 2020, major floor reinforcements, and the acquisition of Rubber Tyred Gantry (RTG) cranes — equipment he described as rare among inland depots in Nigeria. Linden added that the company is now concluding the final phase of a 15,000-square-metre upgrade, noting that the terminal has expanded from 46,000 square metres in 2020 to over 82,000 square metres across two terminals.

Chief Security Officer, Mr. Cashmir Ihedioha, outlined significant improvements in safety and orderliness at the facility, crediting collaboration with agencies including NIMASA, NPA, and the Lagos State Task Force. He said the introduction of a structured traffic system and installation of 69 CCTV cameras have ensured 24-hour surveillance and full compliance with the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code.

Looking ahead, Linden revealed that SIFAX ICT plans to construct a quay wall to enable direct vessel calls in order to further reduce pressure on congested seaports. With approvals already secured, he said the project will change inland terminal operations in Nigeria. He also disclosed that the company intends to transition most of its equipment to gas-powered alternatives as part of a broader strategy to promote cleaner, greener operations
