The Federal Government has commenced a new initiative providing eligible Nigerians with up to 100 megabytes of free data daily to access approved educational platforms and digital learning resources. The initiative is being implemented through the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, in collaboration with telecommunications operators.
Under the programme, users will be able to access selected educational websites, digital libraries and other approved learning platforms without paying for the data used on those services. The initiative is designed to improve access to online educational resources and support students and other learners who depend increasingly on digital platforms for learning.
The programme is part of broader efforts to promote digital inclusion and expand the use of technology in education. By reducing the cost of accessing online learning materials, the government expects more students to take advantage of digital resources, particularly as internet connectivity becomes increasingly important to education and skills development.
The initiative also reinforces the growing role of telecommunications infrastructure in Nigeria’s education sector and digital economy. Its effectiveness will depend on awareness among eligible users, the availability of participating educational platforms and sustained collaboration between government, telecommunications operators and education providers.
