Swift Telephone Network Limited, STN, has entered Nigeria’s telecommunications market after obtaining a Unified Access Service Licence from the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, allowing the company to provide a range of telecommunications services across the country.
The licence permits STN to offer services including mobile and fixed voice communications, data services and other telecommunications offerings. The entry of a new operator adds another player to Nigeria’s telecommunications sector, which has continued to expand alongside rising demand for reliable connectivity and digital services.
The development comes at a time when Nigeria’s telecom market remains largely dominated by major operators, particularly MTN and Airtel. Recent industry figures indicate that the two companies accounted for about 86 percent of active subscriptions, highlighting the scale of competition facing new entrants seeking to establish a significant presence in the market.
STN’s entry is expected to contribute to the ongoing expansion of Nigeria’s digital infrastructure and could create additional opportunities for connectivity, innovation and telecommunications services. The company’s ability to deploy infrastructure and attract subscribers will determine the extent to which its new licence translates into greater competition and wider access to digital services across the country.
