Ride hailing platform inDrive has partnered with Nigerian health technology company Heala to provide healthcare services for drivers directly through its mobile application. The initiative allows eligible drivers in Nigeria to subscribe to health plans, consult licensed doctors remotely and access prescriptions and medical tests without leaving their routes.
Under the arrangement, drivers can enrol in Heala’s healthcare plans through the inDrive app and speak with doctors through video, voice or chat consultations on their phones. The service also enables users to receive prescriptions, obtain medications from nearby pharmacies and access diagnostic tests or specialist care when required.
The partnership is expected to address a long standing challenge faced by ride hailing drivers who often work long hours navigating traffic and irregular schedules that make hospital visits difficult. Because drivers on ride hailing platforms are typically classified as independent contractors rather than full time employees, many do not receive employer provided benefits such as healthcare coverage.
According to inDrive’s Nigeria Country Manager, Oladimeji Timothy, the collaboration reflects the company’s effort to improve driver welfare. Drivers on the platform’s Platinum tier can subscribe to monthly health plans starting from about ₦1,300 and can also add family members such as spouses and children to their coverage.
Chief Executive Officer of Heala, Anderson Oriahi, said the initiative is aimed at bringing healthcare closer to people whose work schedules make traditional hospital visits difficult. Similar welfare initiatives have emerged across the mobility sector, with companies such as Bolt and delivery service Chowdeck also introducing health and insurance partnerships to support drivers and riders beyond their daily earnings.
