More than 200 young Nigerians have received technology and creative skills scholarships valued at over N701 million as part of efforts to strengthen the country’s digital workforce and prepare young people for opportunities in the technology driven economy. The scholarships were awarded through the 18th edition of Aptech Career Quest, which attracted more than 8,000 Nigerian students through physical events and online sessions.
The nationwide programme exposed participants to career opportunities in artificial intelligence, software development, cybersecurity, data science, cloud computing, networking, animation, multimedia and digital design. The physical sessions were held in Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Calabar, Enugu, Ibadan and Abeokuta, while virtual sessions extended participation to young Nigerians outside the host cities.
Aptech Nigeria said the scholarship initiative was designed to make specialised technology education more accessible to young Nigerians seeking practical skills that could improve their prospects in the digital labour market. Executive Vice President, International Business, Aptech Limited, Kallol Mukherjee, said the strong participation reflected the growing interest among Nigerian youths in building careers capable of competing in the global digital economy.
The initiative also provides an international education pathway through Aptech’s partnership with Middlesex University London. Eligible students enrolled in selected Aptech programmes can use a Credit Transfer Facility to progress to undergraduate degree programmes in areas including information technology, computer networks, business information systems, animation and games. Aptech currently operates 72 centres in Nigeria, offering training across several technology fields, including artificial intelligence, machine learning, software development, cybersecurity and cloud computing.
