A new report by Kaspersky has revealed that members of Generation Z are increasingly exposed to cyberattacks despite being among the most active and confident users of digital technologies. The findings have sparked discussions within Nigeria’s cybersecurity community as concerns grow over the online safety habits of young internet users.

According to the report, many Gen Z users spend significant amounts of time online and consider themselves digitally savvy. However, the research found that they are less likely than older generations to adopt essential cybersecurity practices such as installing antivirus protection on mobile devices and regularly changing passwords.

Cybersecurity experts say the trend highlights a widening gap between digital confidence and actual online safety. They warned that cybercriminals are increasingly targeting younger users through phishing schemes, social engineering attacks and malicious links distributed across social media platforms and other digital channels.

The report has renewed calls for stronger cybersecurity awareness campaigns aimed at young people, particularly as digital payments, online learning and social networking continue to grow in popularity. Stakeholders believe that improving cyber hygiene and promoting safer online behaviour will be critical to protecting users and strengthening trust in Nigeria’s expanding digital economy.
