Wealthtech apps gain prominence iTechnology is reshaping the way Nigerians build and manage wealth, with digital investment platforms increasingly opening access to stocks, fixed income products and other financial instruments that were once largely available through traditional brokers and wealth managers. A Forbes Africa report published on Monday said the growing adoption of wealthtech apps is being driven particularly by younger and more digitally savvy Nigerians seeking easier and faster ways to invest.

The expansion of digital investment platforms has also lowered some of the traditional barriers to entering the investment market. According to Piggyvest co founder and Chief Executive Officer, Somto Ifezue, Nigerians can now begin investing with amounts as low as ₦5,000, allowing students and young professionals to build portfolios according to their income. The platforms are also helping users understand concepts such as diversification and compound returns, while rising inflation has encouraged more Nigerians to seek ways of protecting their money from losing value when left idle.

Bamboo, one of the prominent wealthtech platforms operating in Nigeria, said its local stock trading service has attracted more than 600,000 retail accounts since its launch in 2024. The company also reported a 106 per cent increase in high net worth investors between 2023 and 2025. While concerns over cybersecurity, regulation and fraudulent investment schemes remain, industry players believe stronger governance, transparency and financial education will be critical to sustaining confidence in digital investment platforms.

The growth of wealthtech is also pushing traditional financial institutions and asset managers to adapt as investors increasingly demand convenience, transparency and access to multiple investment products from a single platform. Industry stakeholders expect the next phase of Nigeria’s digital investment market to be shaped by embedded finance and artificial intelligence, which could provide more personalised financial information and investment guidance. Rather than replacing traditional wealth managers, the emerging model is expected to create a broader financial ecosystem in which technology expands investment opportunities to millions of Nigerians previously excluded from formal wealth management.
