The National Office for Technology Acquisition and Promotion, NOTAP, has announced the second edition of the National Technology and Innovation Summit, aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s capacity to convert research and innovative ideas into commercially viable products and services. The two day summit, scheduled for October 7 and 8, 2026, will take place at the Civic Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos, under the theme, “From Research to Wealth: Strengthening Innovation, Commercialization, and Technology Sovereignty in Nigeria.”

The summit is expected to bring together policymakers, researchers, universities, technology companies, manufacturers, investors, financial institutions, development organisations and startups to explore practical ways of closing the gap between research and the marketplace. According to NOTAP, the event will provide opportunities for policy dialogue, knowledge exchange and strategic partnerships aimed at improving the commercialisation of research and development outcomes in Nigeria.

Director General of NOTAP, Dr Obiageli Amadiobi, said the agency was focused on accelerating the transformation of research outputs and creative ideas into commercially viable enterprises capable of contributing to national development. She said Nigeria possessed significant research and innovation potential, but stronger collaboration among government, academia, industry and development partners was required to translate that potential into economic opportunities.

The summit will feature ministerial addresses, keynote presentations, high level panel discussions, specialised workshops and innovation exhibitions. Discussions are expected to focus on technology transfer, intellectual property protection, innovation financing, indigenous technology development, local content and technology sovereignty, while startups, universities and research institutions will showcase emerging technologies and research breakthroughs.
