The Anambra State Information and Communication Technology Agency has assessed about 25 ministries, departments and agencies to determine their level of digital readiness, data protection compliance and preparedness to deliver government services through digital platforms. The exercise is part of the state government’s efforts to strengthen digital governance and ensure that public institutions operate with appropriate technology and data management standards.
The assessment, conducted by the agency’s MDA and Compliance Unit, covers key institutions including the Ministries of Justice, Education, Agriculture, and Commerce and Industry. Areas being reviewed include government websites and official email systems, digital records, online payment and approval platforms, digital public services, data management, cybersecurity, service delivery and compliance with government ICT standards.
The Unit Lead, Chinyelu Odigbo, said the exercise was designed to provide evidence on the actual state of digital government across the MDAs and enable the agency to identify areas requiring technical support, training and compliance intervention. She said preliminary findings had revealed uncertainty about compliance with the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 in some institutions, while records management practices also varied across the MDAs.
Odigbo said the exercise would not be a one off inspection, explaining that the agency would continue to track identified gaps, provide compliance guidance and maintain engagement with MDAs through designated ICT focal persons. She added that the findings would contribute to the development of a broader digital maturity scorecard to help the state measure progress and strengthen secure, efficient and citizen focused digital government services across Anambra.
