WhatsApp has unveiled a range of new calling features aimed at improving communication across smartphones, tablets, desktops and web browsers. The update introduces browser based voice and video calling, call transfers between devices, waiting rooms for group calls, faster high definition video and improved noise suppression to enhance both personal and professional conversations.
One of the major additions allows users to make and receive audio or video calls directly from WhatsApp Web without downloading the desktop application. The browser experience retains familiar features such as screen sharing, emoji reactions, call history and end to end encryption, while enabling users to switch ongoing calls seamlessly between devices without interruption.
The platform has also introduced a waiting room feature that enables hosts to approve participants before they join group calls, offering greater privacy and control for business meetings, virtual classrooms and community discussions. In addition, QuickHD delivers high definition video almost immediately after a call connects, while the new noise suppression feature reduces background sounds to improve voice clarity.
Meta said the enhancements are part of WhatsApp’s continued evolution into a comprehensive communication platform for work, education and collaboration. The new features are being rolled out gradually and will become available to users worldwide over the coming weeks.
