The Oyo State Government has taken delivery of two security surveillance aircraft to strengthen intelligence gathering and enhance security operations across the state. The aircraft arrived at the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport, Ibadan, on Tuesday and are expected to support aerial surveillance and rapid response to criminal activities.
Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, said the arrival of the aircraft fulfils the state government’s commitment to deploy modern technology in tackling insecurity. He recalled that Governor Seyi Makinde had earlier confirmed the aircraft’s arrival in Nigeria and their reassembly at the Nigerian Air Force hangar in Lagos before their final deployment to Oyo State.
According to the government, the surveillance aircraft will support security agencies, including the Amotekun Corps and other relevant formations, in monitoring criminal activities and improving emergency response across Oyo State and neighbouring areas. Governor Makinde was present at the airport to receive the aircraft.
The state government announced the acquisition of the two aircraft in July 2025 as part of efforts to combat kidnapping, banditry and other security threats. Officials said the deployment of the aerial platforms marks a significant step in strengthening the state’s security architecture through improved intelligence and surveillance capabilities.
