The Federal Government has opened applications for its new Credit for Laptops, Internet, Connectivity and Knowledge Digital Devices, C.L.I.C.K.D., programme, allowing eligible Nigerians to acquire laptops, smartphones and tablets through flexible instalment payments. The initiative was launched in Abuja by the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr Bosun Tijani, alongside the Managing Director of the Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation, CREDICORP, Uzoma Nwagba.
The programme is designed to improve access to digital devices for students, job seekers, freelancers and technology professionals who may not be able to pay the full cost upfront. The pilot phase will begin with the distribution of 1,000 locally assembled laptops to beneficiaries of the Federal Government’s Three Million Technical Talent, 3MTT, programme, with 77 participants in Abuja already receiving their devices.
Applications are now open through the official CREDICORP C.L.I.C.K.D. portal, where applicants are required to provide information such as their state of residence, employment status, monthly income, digital skills programme affiliation and intended use of the device. Applicants must also consent to eligibility verification before their applications can be processed.
While the current pilot is officially limited to 3MTT fellows, the application portal also lists participants from programmes including ALX Africa, AltSchool Africa, HNG Internship, Learn2Earn, Andela Learning Community and Genesys Tech Hub. The government said the initiative is expected to promote digital inclusion, encourage local technology manufacturing and expand opportunities for learning, remote work, software development and entrepreneurship across Nigeria.
