Omolola Rebecca, founder of agritech startup Agrovest, has won the ₦2.5 million grand prize at the Abuja edition of MTN Nigeria’s The Gathering on 100 Pitchathon. She emerged victorious after presenting her platform, which connects smallholder farmers with community funding to help them access the capital needed to expand their businesses.
Rebecca said the idea for Agrovest was inspired by a security guard who also worked as a farmer but struggled to grow his farm because of limited access to finance. According to her, the encounter revealed a widespread challenge faced by many farmers across Nigeria and motivated her to develop a solution that provides community backed funding for agricultural growth.
Describing the award as a major milestone, Rebecca said the recognition would increase Agrovest’s visibility, attract investors and strategic partners, and enable the company to reach more farmers. She added that the platform is committed to improving productivity and supporting sustainable agricultural enterprises.
Presenting the award, MTN Nigeria’s Manager of Customer Acquisition and Compliance, North West, Lanre Coker, said The Gathering on 100 was created to empower young entrepreneurs through funding, mentorship and business exposure. He noted that the initiative is designed to help innovative ideas grow into successful businesses with lasting impact.
