A Nigerian fintech executive, Abimbola Bajomo, has shared how an unconventional career path took her from studying Sociology to becoming one of the emerging voices in Africa’s digital payments ecosystem. Currently the Product Lead at Credit Direct, Bajomo said her journey into financial technology began with a passion for solving operational problems rather than a deliberate pursuit of a career in banking.

Bajomo, who previously held product management roles at TrainQuarters, Gokada and Remita Payment Services, said her experience managing payment infrastructure, Point of Sale systems and integrations with major payment platforms gave her a deeper understanding of Nigeria’s evolving financial ecosystem. She also played key roles in digitising business processes and developing payment solutions across the organisations where she worked.

Beyond her corporate responsibilities, Bajomo has become a mentor to aspiring fintech professionals by simplifying complex payment regulations and Central Bank of Nigeria policies through educational content shared on LinkedIn. She also supports knowledge sharing initiatives aimed at helping young professionals build careers in product management and financial technology.

Speaking on the future of Africa’s payments industry, Bajomo said financial inclusion, cross border payment integration and stronger fraud prevention systems remain critical priorities for the continent. She expressed optimism that ongoing reforms, including the adoption of global payment standards, would strengthen Nigeria’s payment infrastructure and unlock greater opportunities for innovation across Africa.
