ClapMi, an African startup focused on creator technology, has secured a $20,000 innovation grant from Lisk through the Aya × Lisk Incubation Program. The company says the funding will speed up the development of its creator layer and support its goal of building the world’s first hybrid Web2–Web3 livestream competition platform. The platform is designed to offer creators across Africa a fair and performance-based way to earn money from their content.
The support comes at a crucial time for the continent’s fast-rising creator economy, which is projected to exceed $29.8 billion by 2032. Africa’s young, mobile-first population continues to drive digital engagement, but most creators still struggle to make meaningful income from their work. Studies show that more than half of African creators earn under $60 a month, despite high levels of activity and audience interest.
Industry observers say the problem lies in how current livestream and social platforms operate. These platforms are built around passive viewing, unclear payout systems, and algorithms that often overlook the competitive and energetic formats that define much of African entertainment. As a result, creators produce content that attracts significant attention but receive only a small portion of the value they generate.
ClapMi hopes to change this by building a system that rewards creators based on performance, transparency, and community-driven engagement. With the new funding, the startup aims to prove that Africa’s creator economy can grow in a way that gives talent across the continent the opportunity to earn fairly and compete on a global stage.
