The African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD), in collaboration with Meta and Deloitte, has unveiled AKILI AI, an artificial intelligence-driven platform aimed at empowering Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) across Africa.
The platform seeks to address major challenges confronting MSMEs, such as restricted access to finance, market navigation difficulties, and the absence of tailored advisory services.
This partnership between AUDA-NEPAD, Meta, and Deloitte demonstrates the role of public-private collaborations in addressing Africa’s economic challenges with the aim of unlocking Africa’s entrepreneurial potential and accelerate socio-economic progress across the continent.
AKILI AI integrates Meta’s Llama Open Source AI model and other advanced technologies to equip MSMEs with the necessary tools to compete effectively in today’s market. The initiative highlights the potential of AI in enhancing inclusive growth and sustainable development, while also strengthening partnerships with governments, international organizations, and development agencies for greater impact.
AUDA-NEPAD’s Chief Executive Officer, Ms. Nardos Bekele-Thomas, described the launch as a milestone in the empowerment of African entrepreneurs. She emphasized that by harnessing AI, MSMEs can overcome critical obstacles and drive economic development across the continent. She further reaffirmed AUDA-NEPAD’s commitment to innovation and inclusivity in the business ecosystem.
Kojo Boakye, Meta’s Vice President of Public Policy for Africa, the Middle East, and Türkiye, highlighted the importance of the initiative in democratizing access to cutting-edge technology. He noted that AKILI AI would serve as a catalyst for job creation, entrepreneurship, and economic transformation by equipping MSMEs with essential digital tools and resources.
