Tenable, a leading cybersecurity firm, has announced the death of its CEO and chairman, Amit Yoran, after a prolonged battle with cancer. Yoran had led the company since 2016, steering its growth and defining its strategic direction in the cybersecurity terrain.
Yoran’s career included pivotal roles such as president of RSA Security, founding CEO of NetWitness, and CEO of In-Q-Tel, a nonprofit venture firm that supports national security initiatives. His leadership at Tenable solidified the company’s reputation as a global leader in vulnerability management and risk assessment.
Tenable, under Yoran’s watch, had grown to a customer base of over 44,000 organizations worldwide, including 65% of the Fortune 500. He is also the creator of Nessus, one of the most widely deployed vulnerability scanners in the cybersecurity market.
The company is now focusing on a critical search for new leadership. Yoran had taken medical leave on December 5, prompting Tenable to appoint Chief Financial Officer Steve Vintz and Chief Operating Officer Mark Thurmond as interim co-CEOs. Both executives are to continue to manage the company’s operations until a permanent successor is sourced.
In a statement, Tenable’s lead independent director, Art Coviello, paid tribute to Yoran’s legacy, describing the man as “an extraordinary leader, colleague, and friend.”
“His passion for cybersecurity and his strategic vision have left an indelible mark on Tenable’s culture and mission. His legacy will continue to guide us as we move forward”, Coviello added.
As Tenable navigates the leadership transition, the company’s search for a new CEO will be pivotal in maintaining its trajectory in the fast-evolving cybersecurity landscape.
Yoran’s successor will be tasked with building on previous achievements and driving innovation in a field where Tenable has been actively performing.
