MTN Nigeria announced the closure of its shops across the country on Tuesday, directing customers to use its digital channels for any support they may require.
Although the company did not provide specific reasons for the closure, it is speculated to be linked to the outbreak of violence at several of its outlets on Monday. The disturbances occurred as customers flocked to the support centers to unbar their lines, which had been blocked due to NIN-SIM linkage issues.

This development follows the barring of millions of lines by all telecom operators, including Airtel, Globacom, and 9mobile, over the weekend. The action was taken in compliance with the directive from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).
MTN Nigeria’s move to close its physical shops and direct customers to digital platforms highlights the ongoing challenges faced by telecom operators in implementing regulatory directives while ensuring customer safety and service continuity.
