Tech giant, Google, has announced the selection of five Nigerian startups to join cohort 8 of the Google for Startups Accelerator programme.

This year’s cohort includes a total of ten tech startups from Nigeria, Kenya, Rwanda, and South Africa, all of which are leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) to address significant challenges in various sectors such as fintech, climate, health, and other essential services.

Emerging from a competitive application process that was open to all African startups in April, Nigerian startups have made a strong showing, claiming half of the available slots in this prestigious programme.

The selection underscores Nigeria’s burgeoning tech scene and its capacity to develop innovative solutions to pressing issues, positioning the country as a significant player in Africa’s tech ecosystem.
