Opera has announced the release of Opera One R2 in developer beta, introducing a host of new features designed to enhance user experience. Among the highlights are revamped multimedia controls, redesigned tab management, and advanced AI capabilities.
Multimedia Controls and Tab Management
In a departure from tradition, Opera One R2 offers users the flexibility to place multimedia controls in a floating window, akin to picture-in-picture video modules. These resizable controls integrate seamlessly with the browser’s theme settings and include play/pause, next, previous, pop-out, and volume options.
The new version also introduces split tab functionality, allowing users to work on two web pages simultaneously—a feature increasingly adopted by newer browsers.
User Experience Enhancements
Opera One R2 incorporates innovative UI elements such as “traces,” small indicators underscored in light or dark shades depending on the time since a tab was closed. This feature is particularly useful for users managing multiple tabs.

AI Integration
Opera continues to push boundaries with AI integration, enhancing user interaction with features like Aria, an AI-powered assistant. Users can utilize Aria for tasks such as finding, translating, or summarizing information directly from web pages. The update also integrates AI capabilities for image and voice generation, leveraging large language models (LLMs) locally.

Future Outlook
The company plans a broader rollout of Opera One R2 later this year, aiming to enhance productivity and user engagement through its innovative features.
Stay tuned for further updates as Opera continues to innovate and refine its browser experience with Opera One R2.
