The Nigeria Communication Satellite Limited (NigComSat), a government-owned satellite company, has forged a new alliance with Hotspot Network Limited to enhance connectivity in rural areas across Nigeria. This collaboration aims to address the significant gap in internet access in underserved communities.

CEO of NigComSat, Jane Egerton-Idehen, highlighted that the partnership involves providing satellite coverage to support Hotspot Network’s expansion plans. This initiative is part of broader efforts to achieve the National Broadband Plan’s target of increasing broadband penetration to 70% by 2025 and covering 80% of the population by 2027.

According to Egerton-Idehen, the partnership will significantly reduce the current 61% of unconnected Nigerians to less than 20% by 2027. Morenikeji Aniye, CEO of Hotspot, expressed optimism about the collaboration’s potential to deploy affordable and reliable internet solutions, empowering rural communities in Nigeria.

The joint initiative between NigComSat and Hotspot Network is set to commence immediately, with initial rollout plans slated for the next six months. This initiative aligns with the Federal Government’s broader strategy to enhance digital connectivity across Nigeria through programs like Project 774.
