Facebook’s parent company, Meta Platforms, is reportedly in discussions to integrate its generative AI model into Apple’s newly announced AI system for iPhones, according to the Wall Street Journal. This collaboration marks a significant step as Apple plans to incorporate technology from various AI companies into its devices.

Apple’s strategy includes a potential tie-up with its long-time search partner, Google, under Alphabet Inc. Additionally, Apple is expected to explore partnerships with other AI firms globally, including in regions like China, where Microsoft’s OpenAI chatbot, ChatGPT, is banned.
While the financial implications of these discussions remain unclear, the talks involve AI companies potentially offering premium subscriptions through Apple’s AI platform, Apple Intelligence. Notably, AI search startup Perplexity has also been in negotiations with Apple about integrating its generative AI technology into Apple Intelligence, a source familiar with the matter told Reuters.
Earlier this month, Apple unveiled its much-anticipated AI strategy, announcing plans to integrate new Apple Intelligence technology across its suite of apps, including Siri. This move will also see the incorporation of ChatGPT into Apple devices, with a strong emphasis on differentiating from rivals Microsoft and Google by prioritizing user privacy.
