Ant Group, the financial affiliate of Chinese e-commerce titan Alibaba Group, is reportedly in discussions with Indonesian authorities to introduce its popular cross-border payment service, Alipay+, into the country.

The CEO of Ant Group’s international business arm, Peng Yang, revealed this development after a meeting with Indonesia’s communications minister.

Alipay+ was launched in 2020 and offers a range of services and technology tools to global merchants and e-wallet providers, enabling them to facilitate payments in overseas markets using local e-wallets.

Yang mentioned that the company is seeking guidance from Indonesia’s central bank to operate within the country and expressed hope for Alipay+’s potential launch in Indonesia later this year. Despite media inquiries, neither Ant Group nor Bank Indonesia responded immediately for comment on this matter.
