Google has announced that it would power some of its artificial intelligence tools for businesses with its “Gemini” AI models, offering them at a lower-priced plan to rival Microsoft-backed OpenAI.

Alphabet’s unit, Google (GOOGL.O), unveiled “Duet AI in Workspace” last August, presenting a suite of AI assistants capable of various tasks such as drafting emails in Gmail, composing documents in Google Docs, and crafting custom visuals in Google Slides.

Initially priced at $30 per user monthly for companies, this package is now undergoing a transformation into “Gemini for Google Workspace,” with revised pricing tiers of $20 and $30 per user per month, contingent on the included features, atop a subscription to Google Workspace.

OpenAI, on the other hand, markets a suite encompassing the GPT-4 AI model and the DALL•E image generation tool. The individual subscription stands at a monthly rate of $20 per user, while corporate packages commence at $25 per user per month.

The burgeoning interest in generative AI technologies, hailed as groundbreaking for their capacity to automate tasks and generate human-like responses, has spurred significant investment and consumer enthusiasm.

Microsoft (MSFT.O), leveraging its investment in OpenAI, swiftly integrated genAI capabilities into a plethora of its offerings, spanning enterprise productivity software to cloud services, thus securing an early advantage in the field.

Furthermore, Google disclosed that individual users can now access Gemini across their personal Gmail, Docs, Slides, Sheets, and Meet applications through a subscription to Google One AI Premium. This service, augmenting storage and features in Gmail, Drive, and Photos, offers users expanded functionalities.

Moreover, Google Workspace users are set to benefit from a standalone chat interface dubbed “Chat with Gemini.” Importantly, conversations within this tool will remain shielded from any advertising purposes, reaffirming Google’s commitment to user privacy.

Google aims to carve out a competitive niche in the burgeoning landscape of AI-powered business solutions, poised to challenge the dominance of its rivals.
