The Corporate Affairs Commission has disclosed that it now processes close to 10,000 business registration requests daily following the full deployment of artificial intelligence across its service platforms, a significant rise from the few hundreds recorded in its early years. The commission, however, acknowledged that the transition to an AI driven system came with disruptions and temporary setbacks in service delivery during 2025.
The Registrar General of the commission, Hussaini Magaji, made this known in Abuja on Monday at the opening ceremony of the CAC’s 35th anniversary celebration. He described the milestone as a defining moment in Nigeria’s economic formalisation drive, noting that the commission has evolved from a single office with manual processes into a fully digital, end to end registry accessible round the clock from anywhere in the world.
Magaji explained that the surge in registration volumes was driven by tax reforms, policies encouraging the formalisation of informal businesses and the rapid growth of digital and social media based enterprises. According to him, the commission now also handles an average of 5,000 inquiries daily through its complaint management system, stressing that such volumes would be impossible to manage without the support of artificial intelligence.
While admitting that the AI transition posed challenges, Magaji said the shift was inevitable and necessary to sustain efficiency and global standards. He revealed that the commission had signed a Letter of Collaboration with Google to strengthen its digital infrastructure and unveiled a redesigned website featuring AI powered tools such as an AI Lawyer and an AI Name Generator to further ease business registration.
As part of activities marking the anniversary, the commission approved free business name registration for 3,500 small businesses nationwide and announced scholarships for outstanding corporate law students, alongside other social responsibility initiatives and staff incentives. Stakeholders at the event, including the House of Representatives Committee on Commerce and the National Information Technology Development Agency, commended the reforms and pledged continued legislative and technical support to deepen CAC’s digital transformation.
