A Nigerian technology company is using digital payments, telematics and real time monitoring to tackle one of the persistent challenges facing businesses across Africa: knowing exactly how fuel and energy are being spent. Tango Brook Technologies, developer of the Tango Fuel App, has expanded its platform into Ghana, Sierra Leone, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Zimbabwe, one year after launching in Nigeria.
Launched in September 2025, the platform has grown beyond digital fuel payments into an energy management ecosystem combining Tango Fuel Cards, Tango Fleet Management and Tango GenVault. The system enables businesses to track fuel transactions, monitor vehicles, optimise routes and monitor generator runtime, diesel consumption, refuelling activities and unusual consumption patterns. Tango Brook said it now serves more than 150 corporate organisations, including Flour Mills of Nigeria, Seven Up Bottling Company, LAGRIDE, UBA and CardinalStone.
The company said the technology recorded significant growth between January and August 2026, with wallet funding increasing 12.4 times, revenue rising 46.7 per cent, while app transactions and active transacting cards each increased 3.4 times. Monthly transaction volume has also exceeded ₦700 million, according to the company. Tango Brook has obtained ISO 27001:2022 certification as it prepares to manage larger volumes of corporate transactions and data across its expanding markets.
The expansion signals a broader shift in how African businesses are using technology to manage operational costs, with fuel and energy expenditure increasingly becoming a data problem as much as a payment problem. By connecting payments with vehicle and generator data, Tango Brook is positioning its platform to help organisations identify unusual consumption, reduce potential leakages and make better decisions about energy spending. The company says its next phase will focus on expanding its African presence and using data and predictive analytics to provide deeper intelligence on energy consumption.
