The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure has unveiled more than 40 locally developed technology products, including electric vehicles, solar systems, smartphones, laptops and rapid diagnostic kits, as part of efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s technological and industrial capacity.
The agency disclosed this in a statement on Sunday as it highlighted three years of institutional reforms and technology commercialisation under its current leadership. The products span renewable energy, transportation, agriculture, healthcare, information technology, clean cooking and education, with the portfolio including electric tricycles, CNG conversion solutions, solar irrigation pumps, solar home systems, batteries, tablets, televisions and clean cookstoves.
The Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NASENI, Khalil Halilu, said the agency was focused on closing the gap between research and industrial production by connecting innovation with funding, manufacturing, skills development and market access. He said Nigeria possessed the engineering and research talent required to develop innovative solutions but needed stronger systems to transform ideas into commercially viable products.
Halilu said NASENI was also developing a 40 hectare Solar Industrial Park in Gora, Nasarawa State, while an electric vehicle assembly facility was being developed at Abuja Technology Village. He added that the agency had established CNG conversion and reverse engineering centres in Abuja and was deploying solar powered irrigation technology under the Irrigate Nigeria Project. NASENI said its next phase would focus on expanding commercial production, increasing local content, improving standards and certification, strengthening factory utilisation and increasing market adoption.
