Ecentric Payment Systems has launched POSPay, a semi white label payment solution designed to allow South African till vendors offer integrated payment services under their own brand names. The platform enables vendors to connect once to Ecentric’s certified payment infrastructure and provide merchants with branded card payment solutions linked to multiple acquiring banks through a single backend integration.
According to the company, till vendors joining the POSPay programme would undergo a vetting process assessing their financial capability, technical capacity, merchant network and sales structure before signing commercial agreements with Ecentric. While acquiring banks remain responsible for merchant verification in line with South African financial regulations, Ecentric provides the processing infrastructure, certified payment terminals, reporting systems and technical support behind the scenes. Vendors are also allowed to customise the service with their own logos and pricing structures while earning commissions from participating banks.
The company explained that the platform would reduce operational challenges for merchants by allowing them switch acquiring banks without changing their till software or disrupting payment integrations. Under the arrangement, merchants using vendor supplied hardware can move between banks with minimal interruption, while updates to merchant IDs and banking relationships are handled in the background. Analysts say the development could strengthen competition in South Africa’s mid tier merchant payment market where businesses have traditionally faced limitations tied to specific banks and payment providers.
Speaking on the initiative, Don Lange said POSPay was created to bridge the gap between acquiring banks and till vendors without creating competitive conflicts. He noted that banks often struggle to scale direct relationships with independent merchants, while till vendors require reliable payment partners capable of handling processing infrastructure and compliance requirements. Lange added that Ecentric spent two years engaging vendors before bringing the product to market in order to build a trusted ecosystem for all parties involved.
