Techlytics Institute of Technology and Innovation, in partnership with IHS Nigeria, has launched TechHER25, an applied artificial intelligence training programme aimed at equipping 50 female engineers with skills in designing and deploying edge based AI systems. The eight week initiative is being hosted at the Faculty of Computing of the University of Ibadan and is focused on practical development using high performance AI hardware.

According to the organisers, participants will develop computer vision systems that will be tested on accuracy, latency, and energy efficiency. The programme forms part of Techlytics’ broader strategy to strengthen sovereign AI infrastructure in Nigeria by building local technical capacity capable of developing and operating intelligent systems within the country. The female engineers will work on four key application areas including traffic and mobility systems, real time safety intelligence, waste and recycling monitoring, and energy utilisation tracking.

Director of Sustainability at IHS Nigeria, Titilope Oguntuga, said developing local technical expertise is essential for the future of digital infrastructure in Nigeria. Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Techlytics, Oluwatayo Winkunle, explained that the initiative is designed to place advanced AI capability directly in the hands of Nigerian engineers within a practical learning environment. He noted that the projects are intended to move beyond academic exercises into solutions that can eventually support government institutions and industrial operations.

Industry experts say the programme reflects the increasing investment in artificial intelligence education and innovation across Nigeria as the country seeks to strengthen its position within Africa’s growing digital economy. The initiative is also expected to promote female participation in emerging technologies and help address gender gaps in engineering and AI related fields.

IHS Nigeria disclosed that it is supporting the programme through funding, infrastructure provision, training resources, and the establishment of a permanent AI laboratory at the University of Ibadan, while the programme will conclude with a demonstration event scheduled for July 2026.
