The PROMAD Infotech Foundation has unveiled a five year strategy aimed at expanding the use of civic technology to deepen citizen participation and strengthen accountability in governance across Nigeria and other African countries. The strategy, covering 2026 to 2030, is designed to use technology, data and Artificial Intelligence to make governance more transparent, responsive and inclusive.
Executive Director of PROMAD, Daisi Omokungbe, said the organisation would build on platforms such as FollowTheProjects and Isunawa AI, also known as Our Budget, to expand participatory budgeting and public project tracking across between 10 and 15 states. The platforms are designed to help citizens monitor government projects, identify abandoned or delayed projects and generate data that can support better public spending and service delivery.
Under the strategy, PROMAD also plans to strengthen digital governance through interactive platforms and dashboards that would enable citizens to participate in budgeting, electoral oversight and policymaking at national and subnational levels. The organisation said it would expand hybrid town halls, fellowships and community led needs assessments, while strengthening the capacity of youths, women, persons with disabilities, civil society organisations and government officials in digital skills, Artificial Intelligence, data literacy and policy advocacy.
Omokungbe said the roadmap would also promote open data and inclusive participation in areas including education, healthcare, infrastructure, climate, gender and youth leadership. He said PROMAD intended to expand its civic technology solutions and participatory governance models to other African countries by 2030, while calling for partnerships with governments, development organisations, donors, civil society groups and private sector innovators to support the implementation of the strategy.
