The Federal Government has commissioned and handed over the Renewed Hope and National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) Innovation Hub at Obafemi Awolowo University, in a move aimed at strengthening practical technology education and innovation among students and young entrepreneurs.
The facility, unveiled by the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, is equipped with laboratories dedicated to artificial intelligence, robotics, additive manufacturing and the Internet of Things. According to the minister, the hub is designed to provide students with hands on experience and equip them with the skills needed to develop solutions for real world challenges.
Officials said the project reflects ongoing efforts to align higher education with industry needs and build a stronger pipeline of digital talent across the country. The hub is expected to support research, hardware development, prototyping and entrepreneurship, particularly in emerging technologies that are increasingly shaping global economies.
The initiative complements broader government and private sector investments in digital infrastructure and innovation. Stakeholders believe facilities such as the OAU hub, alongside similar projects planned for other universities, will help expand access to technology training, foster innovation and prepare more young Nigerians for opportunities in the digital economy.
