Nokia has unveiled a new AI Networking Innovation Lab in Sunnyvale, California, aimed at accelerating the development of next generation networking technologies for artificial intelligence infrastructure through collaboration with cloud providers, silicon manufacturers, and other technology partners.

The company said the facility would serve as a hub for developing and testing advanced AI networking architectures needed to support the growing demands of large scale AI training and real time inference. According to Nokia, the increasing complexity of AI workloads is placing unprecedented pressure on data centre networks, requiring new approaches to networking, automation, congestion control, and system integration.

The innovation lab will focus on three key areas including technology innovation, ecosystem collaboration, and validation. Nokia explained that the centre would provide a platform for partners to experiment with emerging networking standards, switching technologies, telemetry systems, and AI ready infrastructure solutions. Companies such as AMD, Keysight Technologies, and Nscale are among organisations already collaborating with Nokia on testing and validating AI networking systems under real world conditions.

Speaking on the initiative, Nokia’s Vice President of Software Product Management, Rudy Hoebeke, described the launch as a major milestone in advancing AI native connectivity. He said the facility would give customers and partners early access to new technologies while reducing deployment risks and improving the reliability and efficiency of AI infrastructure. The company added that the investment forms part of its broader strategy to strengthen its position in the rapidly growing global AI and cloud infrastructure market.
