Africa’s leading financial ecosystem platform, Moniepoint, has intensified efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s technology talent pipeline by hosting a leadership and product development event for women in technology as part of activities marking International Women’s Day.

The event, themed “Break the Pattern,” was held at the company’s headquarters in Lagos in partnership with Women Techmakers Lagos and Google Developer Group Lagos, bringing together participants from technical and non technical backgrounds across the country’s growing digital economy.

Delivering the keynote address, Head of Product at Moniepoint, Kemi Nwogu, challenged women to move beyond traditional career limitations and actively shape the future of the technology industry. Speaking on the topic, “Breaking the Pattern: How Women Can Redefine the Future of Tech,” Nwogu argued that many of the barriers discouraging women from science and technology careers were socially constructed and could be dismantled through confidence, skills development and intentional leadership. She encouraged participants to pursue continuous learning through coding bootcamps, online courses and practical problem solving.

The event also featured a panel session titled “Unscripted: Leading Beyond the Patterns We Inherited,” moderated by Atinuke Oluwabamikemi Kayode, with contributions from industry leaders including Chukwu Adaeze, Chinenye Ogbu and Motunrayo Koyejo. Discussions focused on challenging long standing workplace cultures within Nigeria’s tech ecosystem, particularly rigid leadership structures, burnout driven productivity models and the pressures associated with customer facing technology roles.

Beyond discussions, participants engaged in a practical workshop tagged “Prompt to Production,” facilitated by Taiwo Famakinde, where attendees learned how to design, prototype and deploy applications using artificial intelligence tools. The training culminated in a buildathon that enabled participants to create and launch solutions in real time.

Co organiser of Women Techmakers Lagos, Funke Olasupo, said the initiative was designed to move beyond motivational conversations by equipping women with practical technical skills and leadership confidence. She added that the programme aligns with Moniepoint’s broader investment in Nigeria’s digital talent ecosystem through initiatives such as Women in Tech, DreamDevs, HatchDev and the Federal Government’s 3MTT programme.
