Spiro, a leading electric mobility company in Africa, has expanded its operations in Ogun State with the deployment of 1,000 electric bikes, in a move aimed at promoting cleaner and more affordable transportation. The initiative was officially inaugurated at the Gateway International Airport by Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Dapo Abiodun, alongside other top government officials and industry stakeholders.

The company said the introduction of the electric bikes is part of efforts to reduce carbon emissions and provide a viable alternative to fuel powered vehicles, especially as Nigerians continue to grapple with rising fuel costs. Chief Executive Officer of Spiro, Kaushik Burman, noted that the project aligns with government’s vision of achieving a cleaner and greener environment while supporting economic growth.

Burman explained that the electric bikes would help riders, passengers and businesses cut down transportation expenses, improve productivity and create new job opportunities. He added that the initiative would also ease traffic congestion across the state, offering practical relief to residents facing economic challenges.

Spiro further disclosed that the Ogun rollout is part of a broader plan to deploy thousands of electric bikes across Nigeria and other African countries. The firm, which operates in eight countries, boasts over 80,000 electric motorcycles and a wide network of battery swapping stations, reinforcing its commitment to building a sustainable and resilient transport system on the continent.
