Mobile apps designed to help consumers avoid American made products have surged in popularity across Denmark and Greenland, following renewed political tension between Europe and the United States over former President Donald Trump’s remarks on Greenland. In recent days, two apps that identify whether products are made in the U.S. and suggest local alternatives have climbed rapidly to the top of the Danish App Store.
The rise in downloads reflects a broader grassroots boycott by Danish consumers, which includes calls to stop buying American goods, cancel U.S. holiday plans, and drop subscriptions to U.S. based streaming platforms such as Netflix. Data from market intelligence firm Appfigures shows that two apps, NonUSA and Made O’Meter, have entered the top ten across app stores this month, signalling how digital tools are being used to support consumer led political action.

NonUSA, an app built specifically to help users boycott American products, became the number one app on the Danish App Store after jumping from number 441 earlier in January. The app allows users to scan product barcodes to check their country of origin and recommends Danish alternatives where available. Its strongest markets are Denmark, Norway, Sweden, and Iceland, pointing to a wider Nordic alignment around the boycott. Made O’Meter, which operates on both iOS and Android, has also climbed into the top five.
Overall, average daily downloads across the two apps rose by nearly nine times over the past week compared to the previous period. While Denmark’s app market is relatively small, with about 200,000 total iOS downloads per day, only a few thousand downloads can push an app to the top of the charts. Alongside the boycott driven apps, the Danish top ten currently features local services and travel tools, while a handful of U.S. based apps such as ChatGPT and Microsoft Authenticator remain on the list, highlighting the mixed nature of consumer response.
