Uber Eats is expanding its push into autonomous delivery through a new partnership with Starship Technologies, a leading sidewalk delivery robot company. Beginning in December, customers in Leeds and Sheffield will be able to receive orders from select merchants via Starship’s six-wheeled robots. Uber plans to gradually scale the service across the region, with broader European expansion slated for 2026 and a U.S. rollout expected in 2027.
This collaboration adds to Uber’s growing list of autonomous delivery partnerships. The company has already worked with several robot makers in the U.S., including Serve Robotics whose machines have been operating on Uber Eats for years and Avride’s sidewalk bots, which joined the platform earlier in 2024. The agreement with Starship strengthens Uber’s strategy of blending human couriers with multiple forms of automation to improve efficiency and cut costs.
Starship brings significant scale to the partnership, with nearly 3,000 delivery robots currently deployed across more than 270 global locations. The compact, six-wheeled machines typically complete deliveries in under 30 minutes and travel short distances of up to two miles, making them well-suited for dense neighborhoods and urban centers.
For Uber Eats, the move reflects the company’s long-term bet that autonomous systems will play a major role in the future of on-demand logistics. By adding Starship’s high-volume robot fleet to its mix, Uber is positioning itself to broaden delivery options, accelerate order fulfillment, and deepen its presence in key international markets as robot-assisted delivery continues to mature
