Spotify has announced a suite of new features aimed at giving users richer insight into the creators behind their favorite tracks, from producers and engineers to background vocalists and songwriters. Central to the update is a renewed push to highlight song credits and help listeners understand the creative process behind the music they enjoy. The platform is also expanding its efforts to show how songs are interconnected including what inspired them and how they’ve influenced other works.

A standout addition is SongDNA, an interactive feature that maps out a track’s creative lineage. Users will be able to see which songs were sampled, who has covered the track, and what other projects the contributors have participated in.

The feature builds on reporting from October that uncovered its early development, and it relies partly on data from WhoSampled, the community-driven sampling database Spotify has now acquired. This marks a major expansion beyond the former Song Credits tool, which offered only limited performance, songwriting, and production information.

The company is also introducing “About the Song,” a swipeable card experience in the Now Playing view. These cards will surface contextual details such as the inspiration behind a track, its cultural significance, and behind-the-scenes stories. Instead of drawing solely from a single partner, as it did in earlier collaborations with Genius, Spotify will now link out to multiple external sources including Wikipedia and news sites. This shift aims to give listeners a broader set of references and a more nuanced understanding of each song.

Spotify says expanded Song Credits will begin rolling out on mobile immediately, with desktop support following in the coming months. SongDNA and About the Song are reserved for Premium subscribers and will launch early next year, initially through Spotify for Artists Preview. This phased release will allow artists, writers, and other contributors to review and verify their credits before the features reach the wider public, reinforcing Spotify’s push for transparency and recognition across the music creation ecosystem
