The Lagos State Government, through the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA), has initiated a clearing and demolition operation targeting shanties and illegal structures around NIPOST on Bourdillon Road, Ikoyi. This effort is part of an ongoing urban regeneration project aimed at enhancing safety, improving the landscape, and ensuring environmental orderliness in the area.
LASBCA’s Director of Public Affairs, Adu Ademuyiwa, explained that the agency’s demolition activity began on Sunday, addressing the environmental and security risks posed by unauthorized structures.
Also the General Manager of LASBCA, Arc. Gbolahan Oki,said that the operation was essential for public safety, especially as the agency had previously issued multiple warnings and Quit and Demolition Notices to affected occupants.
Oki highlighted the need for strict action, noting that unapproved structures continued to proliferate despite the provided compliance period. He stressed that LASBCA would continue enforcing building regulations to maintain orderliness and support sustainable urban development throughout Lagos.
In line with its broader mission, the agency recently issued demolition notices to residents of structurally compromised buildings in Surulere’s Iponri Housing Estate and took enforcement measures against AEOS Engineering Services for exceeding approved building heights in Somolu L.G.A.
Additionally, LASBCA has shut down Ikeja Golf Club over repeated safety violations, including vehicle damage from stray golf balls, as the club failed to implement protective measures.
