MTN Nigeria has closed all its offices and customer service centres across the country following a weekend of intense customer dissatisfaction. The telecom giant faced widespread anger after many customers experienced disconnections, despite directives from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to reactivate the affected lines. The ongoing issues with the lines have only escalated tensions.
A viral video captured the chaotic scene in Lagos, where frustrated customers at an MTN office in FESTAC town took matters into their own hands. The video shows agitated customers tearing down the fence of the MTN office and storming the area in protest. It remains unclear if the protesters managed to gain entry into the building.
The Lagos State Police were quick to intervene, with the local Divisional Police Officer (DPO) and his team promptly restoring order and calming the situation.
In response to the unrest, MTN announced the temporary closure of all its offices nationwide for the day. However, the company assured customers that their digital channels remain operational 24/7 to address any concerns.
