Paris, France – Uber Technologies (UBER.N) has unveiled a series of strategic initiatives to cater to the surging demand anticipated for the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris. Among the highlights is a unique collaboration offering Seine River cruises, marking a significant expansion in Uber’s service portfolio.
From July 12 to August 3, the ride-hailing giant will launch “Uber Cruises,” providing complimentary river tours. Additionally, Uber is introducing “Uber Bubbles,” a luxurious day trip experience featuring champagne tasting.
In a bid to enhance its service capacity, Uber has committed to a substantial investment in driver incentives and rider discounts, although specific financial details remain undisclosed. The company is preparing for an influx of over 15 million visitors this summer—a 30% increase compared to previous years—potentially overwhelming Paris’s public transport system.
Uber projects that a record 40,000 drivers will be active on its platform during the Olympics, aiming to accommodate the heightened demand. To attract budget-conscious riders, Uber is also launching cost-effective options, despite implementing dynamic pricing during the event. Special rider promotions will be available at key transit points, including airports and train stations, where Uber anticipates nearly one million users.
To support its drivers, Uber is offering “promotions,” which provide additional pay for trips originating from designated areas within specific time frames. The Préfecture de Police has approved Uber’s app for use throughout Paris, granting drivers access to restricted zones.
Uber’s preparations include real-time updates in its driver app to navigate zone restrictions and road closures, along with designated in-app drop-off and pick-up zones. The company is also expanding its fleet with over 130 new Uber Access vehicles, enhancing its commitment to accessibility.
