Billionaire Elon Musk says the social media platform X formerly known as Twitter is launching an early version of video and audio calling for some users.

The announcement follows recent series of actions taken by the app owner and Chief Technology Officer, to make the platform an “everything app”.

In August when he test ran the calls, Musk explained that users would not need a phone number for the feature, which he announced will be available on iOS, Android and personal computers.

The latest functionality comes amid a series of new features and changes to the platform’s core experience in nearly a year of purchase.

Since the rebranding of Twitter as X, Musk had revealed he would turn the platform into a super-app, offering a range of services from messaging and social networking to peer-to-peer payments.

In a post on the platform, he instructed users on enabling the feature as an “Early version of video & audio calling on X”.
