TikTok is rolling out a suite of new digital well-being features designed to help users manage their mental health and develop healthier app habits. The platform is updating its screen time management page with tools such as an affirmation journal offering more than 120 positive prompts, a calming sound generator that plays ambient audio like rain or ocean waves, and guided breathing exercises. The page will also highlight content from creators who discuss screen time limits, parental controls, and ways to personalise the TikTok feed.
In an effort to encourage balanced usage—especially among teens—TikTok is introducing a badge system that rewards users for engaging with these well-being tools. The company said its review of academic research shows that excessively restrictive digital controls can backfire for young people. Instead, users can earn badges by completing missions such as avoiding late-night scrolling, using the meditation tools, setting daily screen time limits, reviewing weekly usage reports, or inviting others to participate in these habits.
Early tests suggest the new features are resonating with users. TikTok reported that the redesigned well-being page attracted more visits compared to the old screen time menu, with the affirmation journal proving to be the most popular tool. To boost adoption further, the app will surface direct links to these resources when users are active late at night or when they reach their daily usage limits.
The rollout comes as major tech firms intensify efforts to improve teen safety and digital wellness. TikTok recently expanded its parental controls to let guardians block specific accounts and receive alerts when teens post publicly. Over the past month, companies including Meta, YouTube, OpenAI, and Discord have launched similar features, reflecting a growing industry-wide focus on responsible platform us
