Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has swiftly taken decisive steps within 24 hours of assuming office by dissolving the executives of all boards, agencies, and parastatals in the state’s public service.
In his statement, Governor Okpebholo directed all affected appointees to hand over government properties to the most senior public officer in their respective offices. This move aligns with his promise to bring immediate reform and efficiency to Edo’s public administration.
The governor further instructed contractors to return to their sites and prioritize repairing failed portions of roads within Benin City. During an inspection tour, he noted the deplorable state of key roads and assured residents that his administration would tackle these issues promptly. The governor, citing the Renewed Hope agenda of President Bola Tinubu, affirmed his commitment to improving infrastructure as part of delivering the dividends of democracy.
In an effort to address concerns over state revenue collections, Governor Okpebholo ordered an indefinite suspension of revenue collection, particularly at motor parks and similar points. He expressed intent to review the existing system and implement a more structured approach. The governor warned that any individual found collecting revenues would face arrest, adding that the police have been instructed to enforce this directive.
The suspension of revenue collection has sparked interest among the public, as the governor indicated his administration would soon address the contentious issues surrounding revenue management. He emphasized that until new guidelines are issued, no one is authorized to collect any form of revenue on behalf of the state government.
Addressing journalists at the Upper Mission Extension Road and Ramat Park in Benin City, Okpebholo reiterated his commitment to fast-track road repairs in line with his campaign promises. He disclosed plans for immediate mobilization of contractors to sites including Temboga Road, Aduwawa, and the Ramat Park/Slope Axis. Okpebholo’s proactive approach aims to make the most of the current dry season to maximize roadwork progress.
The governor’s inspection also coincided with the inauguration of a branch of Premium Trust Bank in Benin, signaling his administration’s intention to foster development across Edo State. As he embarks on this ambitious agenda, Okpebholo urged Edo residents to remain hopeful as tangible improvements unfold under his leadership.
