RightCard Payment Services Limited, a subsidiary of Lemonade Technology Inc., has re-entered the Ghanaian market after a hiatus of two months, during which the Bank of Ghana had deemed its operations illegal.

In November 2023, RightCard Payment Services was compelled to halt its operations when the Bank of Ghana included it in the list of unapproved money transfer companies in the country. However, the company has now announced its return, revealing that it has obtained approval from the Bank of Ghana to resume its services.

LemFi, the parent company founded in 2020 by Ridwan Olalere and Rian Cochran, is dedicated to enhancing the financial lives of immigrants. One of its flagship offerings is a multi-currency account, facilitating seamless transactions in both the currency of the user’s new residence and their home country.

With access to over 30 countries, users can send and receive funds effortlessly.

RightCard Payment Services’ revival in Ghana is remarkable now that the company has been permitted to operate through two authorized payment entities in the country: ExpressPay and BigPay. Notably, the company asserts its commitment to strict adherence to the regulatory framework set forth by the Bank of Ghana, ensuring compliance and accountability.

In a related development, Lemonade Technology’s acquisition of Rightcard Payment Services in the UK in 2021 underscores the company’s expansion efforts. Subsequently, Lemonade Finance rebranded to LemFi in May 2023, signaling its pivot towards offering international payment solutions. Despite the change in nomenclature, the core mission remains unchanged.

Moreover, LemFi disclosed securing a substantial $33 million in Series A funding in August 2023, aimed at streamlining the money transfer process for immigrants. This injection of capital positions the company favorably for continued growth and innovation in the fintech landscape.

As RightCard Payment Services resumes operations in Ghana, the company’s renewed focus on regulatory compliance and customer-centric solutions underscores its determination to empower immigrants and facilitate seamless financial transactions globally.
