Nigeria’s fixed internet subscriptions have surged by 1,375 per cent in five years, pointing to a rapid expansion of dedicated broadband services for homes, offices and businesses across the country. Data from the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, showed that fixed internet connections increased from 13,841 in August 2021 to 204,082 in July 2026, representing more than a 14 fold increase during the period.

The growth has been particularly sharp within the past year, with fixed subscriptions rising from 29,489 in July 2025 to 204,082 in July 2026, an increase of about 592 per cent. Fixed internet refers to connections tied to a specific location rather than mobile internet accessed through cellular networks. The segment includes broadband services delivered through fibre and other fixed connectivity technologies.

Several operators are active in Nigeria’s fixed broadband market, including FiberOne Broadband, ipNX Nigeria, Broadbased Communications, Ngcom, Layer3, Choice2Mobile, Swift Networks, Spectranet, MainOne, Dotmac and Cobranet. The expansion suggests growing demand from households, businesses and workplaces for more stable and higher capacity internet services as digital activities increasingly become part of everyday economic and social life.

Despite the dramatic growth, fixed internet remains a relatively small part of Nigeria’s overall internet market. NCC data showed that total internet subscriptions stood at 157.71 million in July 2026, meaning fixed connections accounted for about 0.13 per cent of the total. The sharp rise from a relatively small base nevertheless highlights the emerging importance of dedicated broadband infrastructure as Nigeria continues to expand its digital economy and demand for reliable connectivity grows.
