The Nigeria Police Force has concluded a leadership workshop designed to deepen officers’ understanding of artificial intelligence and its growing role in modern law enforcement. The programme brought together senior police officers, technology experts and international partners to explore how AI can support policing, governance and public safety.

The Second AI POL Leadership Dialogue Workshop focused on innovation, governance and the responsible deployment of artificial intelligence in policing. Participants examined practical applications of AI in crime prevention, investigations, intelligence gathering and operational efficiency, while also discussing challenges associated with adopting emerging technologies.

Speaking at the event, the Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Disu, described the workshop as timely and transformative, noting that artificial intelligence is already reshaping security operations across the world. Discussions also highlighted Nigeria’s emergence as a priority partner under the African AI Policing Pilot initiative, based on outcomes from the 5th Global Meeting for AI and Law Enforcement.

The workshop emphasised the need to balance innovation with accountability, transparency and respect for human rights, amid global concerns over data privacy, algorithmic bias and oversight. The Police Force encouraged participants to apply the knowledge gained to strengthen professional capacity and improve the effectiveness of law enforcement operations across the country.
