Project New Nigeria has distributed 15 iPads and awarded 300 scholarships to students of Niger Delta University, Bayelsa State, as part of efforts to bridge the digital and financial gaps facing undergraduates. The intervention, carried out on April 22, 2026, at the institution’s New Site Multipurpose Hall, was executed in partnership with the Foundation for Citizens Empowerment and Sensitisation on Civic Responsibility and the Niger Delta Development Commission.
Founder and Convener of the initiative, Samuel Kaley Nzidee, said the programme was designed to equip students with tools required to compete in a digitally driven academic and professional environment. He noted that beyond financial support, access to devices remains critical for research, communication, and academic productivity, stressing that the initiative is focused on expanding opportunities for young Nigerians.
The Managing Director of the NDDC, Samuel Ogbuku, represented by the Commission’s Director of Social Services, Engr. Jeremiah Oritsejolone, described the programme as aligned with the Federal Government’s development agenda. He said the intervention reflects a shift toward long-term human capital development, particularly among youths in the Niger Delta region.
Beneficiaries, including students from the Departments of Electrical and Electronics Engineering and Human Anatomy, expressed appreciation for the support, describing it as timely and impactful. The event also featured civic engagement sessions led by comedian Sabinus alongside other influencers, as organisers emphasised the link between digital empowerment, education, and active citizenship among Nigerian youths.
