Kenya based healthcare startup Zuri Health is scaling up its mobile clinic operations in Nairobi after its first bus successfully covered its operating costs, validating a model the company believes can transform access to care. Building on that success, the firm has added two more buses, bringing its fleet to three. Two of the buses function as fully equipped, solar powered clinics offering diagnostics, dental services and cervical cancer screening, while the third supports logistics and restocking to ensure uninterrupted operations.
Unlike traditional mobile clinics in Kenya, which are often deployed by government agencies and non profits for short term outreach programmes, Zuri Health is positioning its service as a sustainable, revenue generating model. The clinics operate daily in high traffic and densely populated areas, targeting low income workers who often avoid seeking care due to the time and cost involved in travelling to hospitals. By bringing services closer to where people live and work, the company is addressing a critical gap in healthcare access.
Founded in 2020, Zuri Health combines telemedicine with physical care delivery, allowing patients to consult doctors remotely, book appointments and manage follow ups through its digital platform. Chief Executive Officer Ikechukwu Anoke said the approach is designed to eliminate barriers to care, noting that many informal sector workers cannot afford to shut down their businesses to visit hospitals. He explained that the company refined its model over three years of medical outreach programmes, leading to the launch of its daily mobile clinic service known as Zuri Express.
Consultations on the platform start at about KES 500, with a typical visit costing around KES 1,500, making it more affordable than most private hospitals. The company generates revenue from both walk in patients and corporate clients that book on site health services, while also partnering with insurers such as the Social Health Authority, Britam and Madison to broaden access. With buses rotating across locations based on demand data, Zuri Health is betting that its scalable, tech driven model could redefine how primary healthcare is delivered in Nairobi and beyond.
