Kenyan fintech startup WayaWaya has appointed former Chase Bank Kenya executive Raj Singh as a non executive director and board adviser as it seeks to expand its Artificial Intelligence powered financial services across Africa and international markets. The company said Singh will provide strategic guidance on governance, commercial growth and partnerships with banks and merchants.
Chief Executive Officer and founder, Teddy Ogallo, described the appointment as a significant step in WayaWaya’s growth, noting that Singh’s extensive experience in banking, fintech and international markets would support the company’s transition from innovation to large scale operations. He said the focus would be on strengthening banking relationships and expanding into new markets.
Singh brings more than two decades of experience in banking and financial technology, having previously held senior roles at Chase Bank Kenya, First City Monument Bank in Nigeria and India’s ICICI Bank. He also serves as Managing Director of consulting firm Rova and sits on the boards of fintech advisory firms Finova360 and Finnafrica.
The appointment reflects a growing trend of African fintech companies recruiting experienced banking executives to support expansion into regulated financial services. It also comes as WayaWaya continues to affirm its independence following previous claims that it had been acquired by Kenyan customer experience firm Ajua in 2021.
